About
The Gujarati Cultural Association of Arizona (GCA) keeps Gujarati culture alive in the Valley of the Sun, serving more than 1,000 Gujarati families across Arizona.
It began in 1979, when a handful of Gujarati pioneers came together for the first organized Navratri Utsav in Phoenix, and GCA was formed in 1981. In the early 1980s Navratri was held in an elementary school, with garba sung by the community and dandiya raas played from cassette tapes. Today GCA celebrates in grand style and brings artists from India for Navratri and Sharad Purnima.
What GCA celebrates
- Navratri Garba and Raas
- Sharad Purnima
- Diwali Dinner with Bollywood-style artists
- Uttarayan (kite flying) and Holi with sister organizations
- An annual Gujarati drama
- The GCA picnic with cricket, volleyball, basketball, singing and housie
