About
Arizona Tamil Sangam (AZTS) is the home of the Tamil community in Arizona: a non-profit, non-religious and non-political 501(c)(3) dedicated to the Tamil language, its culture and the people who carry it forward.
Arizona Tamil School
AZTS runs the Arizona Tamil School, where volunteer teachers help children and youth speak, read and write Tamil, following the International Tamil Academy syllabus:
- Chandler: Hamilton High School, Saturdays 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM
- Phoenix: Desert Sage Elementary School, Glendale, Saturdays 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM
Tamil is also a high-school elective at Arizona College Prep and Hamilton High School in Chandler Unified.
The AZTS year
- Pongal, the Tamil harvest festival
- Uriyadi, the Tamil New Year celebration
- Saravedi, a celebration of Tamil culture every November
- Mellisai Maalai music evenings
- Family hikes, the AZTS picnic and the Kodai Kondattam summer outing
